The location of the Black River Yacht Club is in the historic Lorain Ship Yards, which was very important to the industrial development of Lorain. The American Ship Building Company once occupied the area that we now call home. They built ships here in the late 1800’s dating pre World War II and then on into the 1900’s. Additionally, the Historic Light house at the entrance to the Black River, featured on the top of the page, was one of the first five light houses on the Great Lakes. To add some additional interesting points, there was a Black River Yacht Club that originated on July 7, 1910. This club ceased to exist in 1963. We have how picked up that Torch and we have the ability to carve our own place in the history of Lorain.
